Hanna's Travels

What a day! I am totally done, sunburnt and drained, but it was so, so, so worth it! Together with five other guys, I went on a cycling trip through this magical countryside which was topped off with a visit to a cave, where we had a look at amazing underground halls (partly 100 m high!), took a mud bath (yesss, and it was SO much fun!) and finally soaked for an eternity in a hot spring before crawling out of the cave and making our way back into Yangshuo. Since we were about the last people leaving and because night falls quite early over here, we spent the last 30 minutes of cycling in the dark. What fun - a lot of traffic, other (unlit) bikes, scooters, pedestrians and every other vehicle you could think off. And oh yeah, naturally, our bikes didn't have lights, either. Fortunately though, we had sturdy mountain bikes and therefore could master potholes and the rough trails in the daytime quite easily. The mud bath itself was something new to me, but it was great fun. However, I didn't try out lying down in it, cuz that was a bit too much. But I really loved the hot springs we were soaking in afterwards - they're still in the cave and that part is so high that you can't fathom the ceiling of the cave. Awesome and breathtaking. And very, very relaxing. Just what I needed for my neck - the bike had Chinese dimensions and even after propping the saddle up for the daytrip, the steering bar was still so low that it caused me a stiff neck. Bad luck, I guess... or the onset of the detrimental effects of age. Well, I'd rather go with the bad luck part, I guess... ;-)
Tomorrow I'll leave this wonderful place to travel back to Guilin and then on to Guangzhou. From there, I'll catch a flight to Shanghai and meet up with Dora again - one of the travel mates I had for the China trip in 2005 (featured here as well). Really looking forward to that since I haven't met her in 4 years and there's loads of catching up to do. So then... off to catch some zzzzs before heading off to the East Coast of China.

Boah, was ein Tag! Obwohl ich nun komplett  ausgelaugt, ziemlich verbrannt und fertig bin, war es ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Ich habe mit fuenf anderen Reisenden auf einer Radtour die naehere Umgebung von Yangshuo erkundet und dabei phantastische Landschaften gesehen - man stelle sich saftig gruene Reisfelder vor, dazwischen kleine Doerfer mit sehr freundlichen Einwohnern, einen Fluss, der durch alles
maeandert und schlussendlich schroffe Berge in der Ferne. Dazu noch hochsommerliche Temperaturen und ein stabiles Mountainbike fuer jeden, und fertig ist eine eindrucksvolle Radtour. Wir sind erst durch die
laendliche Umgebung von Yangshuo geradelt, bevor wir dann am Nachmittag zu einer Hoehle kamen, in der wir in den teils riesigen Hoehlenraeumen (bis zu 100 m hoch) alle Arten von Felsformationen bewunderten und die Hoehle erkundeten und dies alles mit einem
Schlammbad und anschliessendem Entspannungsbad in heissen Quellen kroenten. Das Schlammbad war ziemlich witzig, auch wenn ich nicht unbedingt austesten wollte, ob ich mich trotz hohem Auftrieb wohl auf
den schlammigen Boden setzen koennte. Aber die heissen Quellen waren so fantastisch, dass wir erst als letzte aus der Hoehle raus sind und dementsprechend die letzte halbe Stunde im Dunkeln heimradeln mussten (hier wird es schon gegen 19:30 dunkel). Alles kein Problem - es war ja genug Verkehr (Lastwagen, Busse, Pkws, Fahrraeder, Motorraeder und alles andere denkbare) unterwegs, sodass wir selbst ohne eigenes Licht (auweia) gut in der Stadt ankamen. Und nun geniesse ich den letzten Abend in dieser Stadt, bevor ich  morgen in aller Herrgottsfruehe zum Busbahnhof trotten und nach Guilin zurueckreisen werde. Von dort geht's weiter nach Guangzhou, wo ich einen Flug nach Shanghai schaffen muss. Dort werde ich dann Dora treffen, mit der ich 2005 schon mal in China unterwegs war. Wir haben uns seit 4 Jahren nicht gesehen und ich denke, wir werden einiges zu bequatschen haben. Freu mich schon...
